Nepenthes densiflora x robcantleyi

BE-3573

This hybrid produces MASSIVE dark purple pitchers the size of wine bottles!

Starting to get big! I love how long it holds on to its pitchers! October 2020

Love how the wings curl up like ribbons near the base, and that COLOR! October 2020
From Borneo Exotics: "The female parent is a superb dark purple N. densiflora and the male parent is the giant black N. robcantleyi with the cultivar name ‘King of Clubs’. The pitchers are very spectacular and can become huge."

The upturned scalloped edges on the leaves are very unique when compared to pure truncata, which have very short truncated leaves as per their name!

Love it when they first open! October 2020
One of my favorite hybrids! I am looking forward to this plant attaining its mature form. This plant was produced by Borneo Exotics. It gets its gorgeous dark purple color from the female densiflora and its impressive size and peristome from the male, the famous robcantleyi 'King of Clubs'. Borneo Exotics released a random assortment from 20 seedlings of this cross to the public. I am very happy with the clone I received. In addition to the magnificent pitchers, I also find the leaves very interesting - they have scalloped edges that turn up, making each leaf resemble a half-opened oyster shell. Mine also doesn't like to have wet leaves and will develop sunburn marks where there is any standing water on the leaves, similar to veitchii and platychila. Growth is relatively compact for such a future monster!

I obtained mine as a pitcher-less medium-sized plant from California Carnivores sometime in the Fall of 2018. I was just browsing the Nepenthes section as I usually do and I was intrigued by its robcantleyi parentage. I had NO idea what the pitcher were going to look like - I asked Damon if it would be a good plant to bring home and he said it was the last one available and that it was most definitely an excellent hybrid to have. It wasn't until I got home and googled it that I realized I had just brought home a gorgeous monster! It's first pitcher developed about a month later and I immediately fell in love. It is a relatively fast and rewarding grower for me under intermediate conditions, producing long-lasting pitchers every 1-2 months.
Update December 2020 - Finally outgrew the terrarium!

Dominating the terrarium!

The gaping hole from whence it came lol
This extremely fast growing Nepenthes finally outgrow my 40 gallon terrarium! The next leaf was DEFINITELY not going to fit, so it was time to graduate to the windowsill. Hopefully it acclimates to the more variable environment of the windowsill quickly. It currently has five beautiful pitchers on it and I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't drop all of them! Sometimes shifting environments really makes Nepenthes angry :(

Cleared out a corner of the "adults-only" table!

It looks so small compared to the maxima and x Dyeriana hahaha
Current Growing Conditions: Warm Intermediate Terrarium
Light: ~170 PPFD or 9730 Lux under 4000K LED shoplights
Humidity: ~90% night and 67% day
Temperature: ~68F night and 85F day
Water: Moist but not wet
Potting Mix: 50% long fibered sphagnum moss 50% perlite

Fertilizer: MaxSea (1/4 tsp/gallon) every other week into pitchers
Additional Notes: Appears to be a relatively quick grower for me; does not like standing water on leaves. Holds on to pitchers FOREVER!
