Nepenthes 'Red Skelton' (N. [[((mirabilis x thorelii) x mirabilis) x (thorelii x ((northiana x maxima) x (rafflesiana x veitchii)))]

A unique complex lowland hybrid known for it's incredibly long thin upper pitchers

Even the lowers are long and thin! Can't wait for uppers!

This definitely wins as my Nepenthes with the longest and thinnest leaves! Almost looks like blades of grass!
I have a thing for weird looking pitchers. When I saw this tall drink of water in an old Leilani forum post (right next to Freder, another hybrid I am on the lookout for!), I knew I had to have it. (Click here for another post by Leilani Nepenthes featuring Red Skelton). I was so excited when one of my favorite Ebay sellers, Joakim Coveney, listed it as a rooted cutting. Everything about this plant is long and thin! I can't wait for the plant to start vining and forming the exaggerated uppers as well! This plant was a cross between two other named cultivars, 'Hachijo' x' Elaborative Koto', and was hybridized by B.L.Bednar & O.C.Bramblett in 1990. This grex was called 'hareliana", which also produced four other named cultivars. The plant was nominated as a cultivar to the ICPS by Peter D'Amato. In his book the Savage Garden (1998), Peter describes, "this bony-looking plant has long, thin leaves with skinny, skeletal pitchers dark maroon in color."

This hybrid is a very fast grower in lowland conditions thanks to its complex lowland heritage, but it is currently doing very well in intermediate/highland conditions in the main grow tent.
Current Growing Conditions:
Intermediate/Highland Grow Tent
