A highly variable complex cross from Carnivero - every form appears unique and fantastic!
Sooo pink and stripey! November 2020
New leaf is so red! November 2020
I received my medium plant from Carnivero in November 2020 as a birthday present from my mom (thanks Mom!). The complex heritage in this hybrid appears to be creating some dynamite seedlings! Nepenthes Song of Melancholy is one of Leilani Nepenthes most famous hybrids and is thought to be Nepenthes boschiana x (spectabilis x veitchii). Combined with Carnivero's Nepenthes (lowii x veitchii) x boschiana, it basically guarantees goregeous plants! No two seedlings from this grex appear alike, but all of them are unique and beautiful in their own way! Carnivero did a short video on their Instagram demonstrating the variation of this gorgeous cross.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover stripes on my particular clone of this plant, as well as the bright pink and red hues on the pitcher body and newly developing leaf. Very excited to watch this one develop!
This cross is a little finicky with me - it tends to grow slowly and only hold on to one active leaf and pitcher at a time. However, each pitcher just gets brighter, bigger, and more beautiful than the previous one! I especially love how the peristome remains striped and flared throughout the course of its life. Such a bright pink!
Current Growing Conditions: Warm Intermediate Terrarium Light: ~170 PPFD or 9730 Lux under 4000K LED shoplights Humidity: ~90% night and 67% day Temperature: ~68F night and 85F day Water: Moist but not wet Potting Mix: 50% long fibered sphagnum 50% perlite Fertilizer: MaxSea (1/4 tsp/gallon) every other week into pitchers Additional Notes: Slow and finicky grower for me, possibly because of the high amount of red in the leaves? Only holds on to one active leaf and pitcher at a time right now
