Nepenthes veitchii

(Akazukin x Bareo striped)

A highly anticipated pure veitchii cross from Y's Exotics in Japan!

So TINY! November 2020

Tucked into its warm humidity bag to acclimate! November 2020
From Carnivero: "Nepenthes veitchii (Akazukin x Bareo Striped) comes out of Y's Exotics in Japan.  Both parents are exceptional and the offspring produced are some of the best in cultivation with squat, pink pitchers and wide, gorgeously striped peristomes. The plants available are a mix of selected clones out of tissue culture from Y's Exotics. Y's has communicated they were selected for their large shape, pink bodies with striped peristomes."
My first pure veitchii! Purchased in November 2020. Super excited to watch this one mature! Hoping for lots of stripes on wide peristomes! It is a little too tiny to make many observations on my individual for now, but it arrived in perfect condition, as can always be expected from Carnivero. Leaves appear thick and hairy!
Update December 2020

New pitchers! Also added live sphagnum moss top dressing.
This little one acclimated fairly quickly, but I can tell that veitchii is a pretty slow grower. I love how fuzzy it is at the young age! I had to pull it back from the lights because it was suffering from too high light intensity (new leaves tight and small, some sunburn).

Still relatively slow. What a delightfully fuzzy plant :)
Finally got the lighting right! New growth is picking up (although still relatively slow compared to other Nepenthes). Love how bright pink the newest pitchers are!
Current Growing Conditions: Warm Intermediate Terrarium
Light: ~160 PPFD or 8930 Lux under 4000K LED shoplights
Humidity: ~90% night and 67% day
Temperature: ~68F night and 85F day
Water: Moist but not wet
Potting Mix: 50% long fibered sphagnum moss 50% perlite/coco-chips

Fertilizer: MaxSea (1/4 tsp/gallon) every other week into pitchers and lightly spray leaves
Additional Notes: Excited to watch this one grow!
