Nepenthes x 'Mata Hari'
(x splendiana x ventricosa)

I think I just love anything with Nepenthes x splendiana in it! A very weird looking and famously vigorous hybrid!

Great size on arrival! Joakim (Lowland Nursery on Ebay) always sends well-established rooted cutings! February 2021

From Lowland Nursery: "This is an outstanding Nepenthes hybrid that has both colorful and interesting pitchers. It is a very easy and vigorous plant that is not picky about its conditions due to the parentage. It produces lots of long lasting pitchers that have beautiful peristomes and deeply red mottled bodies. The peristome is overly exaggerated for the slim waisted pitchers that the ventricosa parent gifted this cross with. It will grow easily in either lowland or intermediate conditions where it is not picky about humidity or watering."

Love the waisted shape already!

I must be growing it in higher light than what it is was in previously - newest leaves have shorter internode length and a slightly smaller and thicker.
I obtained rooted cutting from Joakim Coveney (Lowland Nursery on Ebay) in February 2021. I had been eyeing this particular cultivar for months. I actually passed up an opportunity to purchase it late last year and regretted not getting it! I guess that's when you know you actually really want something :)

This cross was bred by the great Manny Herrera and has a very unique parentage. The female used in the cross was the famous Nepenthes x splendiana, which is a supposably (no one is quite sure) N. smilesii x mirabilis. N. splendiana tends to pass on incredible vigor to its offspring. Combined with N. ventricosa, you have the makings of a literal Nepenthes weed! True to its parentage, my cutting has ALREADY produced two new pitchers DURING acclimation! Most Nepenthes sulk for the first 2-4 months (sometimes even longer!) in a new environment, but not this one! Really looking forward to seeing more mature pitchers on this one!
